Presenting the return of Helix – HELIX’22, An ANNUAL, All-Biochemistry themed embodiment of academic, arts and cultural events conducted by the Department of Biochemistry, Stanley Medical College in association with students of batch 2020 . ABOUT STANLEY MEDICAL COLLEGE Stanley Medical College (SMC) is a state-government run medical college with hospitals located in Chennai (Madras) in the state of Tamil Nadu, India. Though the original hospital is more than 200 years old, the medical college was formally established on July 2nd, 1938. Stanley Medical College is ranked 11th in the India Today & Nielson 2013 survey. The college stands at the bleeding edge of medical techniques & technology, especially in the fields of plastic surgery, gastroenterology, and diabetology. Govt. Stanley Hospital acts as a teritary care center and an apex referral center for the people of Northern region of Chennai city and neighbouring districts in Tamilnadu and Andhra Pradesh. The Institute for Research and Rehabilitation of Hand and Department of Plastic Surgery (IRRH & DPS) is the first institution in the state of Tamilnadu to have performed a successful Hand Transplantation. It is very widely recognised nationally as a 'Center of Excellence' for treatment of hand injuries and an advanced training center for a career in plastic surgery. Another crown in the jewel is the Institute of Surgical Gastroenterology and Liver Transplantation Center, taking pride in being the only government-owned facility for liver transplant in the state of Tamilnadu. The facility also houses a 'Stem Cell Research Lab', one of its kind in a state-run medical institution, under the guidance of ICMR. The college has several apex institutions affiliated to it, like the Govt. RSRM Lying-In Hospital (an institution with a rich history, as old as the main hospital), the Govt. Hospital for Thoracic Medicine (commonly known as Tambaram TB Sanatorium, which is an esteemed institution in its own right), Tondiarpet Peripheral Hospital, Institute of Diabetology, and Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Social Pediatrics. The alumni of Stanley have tasted only success in all their endeavours with multitude of doctors excelling in their own fields everywhere they go.
